Bridleway to the Playing Field

Posted 3rd September 2004

With the completion of the playing field, more people especially children are now using the bridleway from Froxmere Road; this is a very a useful contribution to their safety by keeping them of the road. This has been helped too by the farmer fencing off the bridleway, keeping cattle off it and reducing the mud they inevitably cause.

But there have recently been complaints about dogs fouling the same bridleway. Would all dog-walkers please clear up after their dog(s). Whilst this request applies pretty much everywhere, the bridleway is attracting more users than ever, so please help to keep it clean and healthy, as well as safe-guarding the farmer’s cattle.

And the electric fence is there to protect the path, so please ensure that children do not damage it – as PC Andy Clarke has previously warned, damaging any fence is a criminal offence, as well as risking cattle straying onto and damaging the playing field itself.

Playing Field & Hall Access

Posted 3rd September 2004

The Parish Council has arranged to install gates between the allotments and the playing field. The smaller gate will remain unlocked to allow pedestrian access to the field, but the larger gate will be kept locked to restrict unauthorised access by vehicles.

Early risers may also have noticed that the hall car park gates are being locked from dusk until around 8.30 each morning, except when there is an evening event at the hall. This action is being taken to deter unauthorised use of the hall car park, especially late in the evenings.

Playing Field Management Committee

Posted 5th August 2004

Would you like to be a part of the team to manage the Jubilee Playing Field?

The Parish Council is in the process of setting up the above to manage all the facilities on the field, and invites anyone aged 16+ to volunteer to join the committee. It is planned to have two such volunteers who, ideally, will take an active part in the day-to-day running of the field, as well as having an input to any plans for the future.

Anyone interested or wanting to know more please contact the Clerk, Martin Povey, on 381502, as soon as possible.

Hall Terrace and Garden: Access to Playing Field

Posted 5th August 2004

When anyone hires the hall, they also hire the terrace and hall garden for their own exclusive use.

With the increasing use of the playing field facilities, a number of such private parties have recently been interrupted by other people, usually taking short cuts to the playground or multi-sports court, asking to use the hall toilets, or even on one occasion asking to buy beer from the party.

Would everyone please note that, when a private event is in progress, access to the playground and playing field should be via the allotment track and not through the hall garden. Notices to this effect will be provided for hirers to put on the gates between the car park and the hall garden – please respect the notices, and ask your children to do the same.

PS: By the same token, those hiring the hall may use the playground, but they cannot have exclusive use of it – anyone else may also use it, if they wish.

And, if hall hirers wish to use the playing field, they must check with Bookings Secretary (381130) that it is available – some one else may have booked it, for example, for a cricket or football match.

Walking or Riding on Public Rights of Way?

Posted 5th August 2004

Crowle residents are fortunate to have a fantastic network of public rights of way on their doorsteps, many of which cross land where crops are grown or livestock is kept. Here are a few tips for ensuring that you can enjoy public rights of way in a responsible manner.

  • Keep your dog under close control and never allow it to worry livestock or damage crops
  • Clean up after your dog
  • Leave gates as you find them (unless you are 100% certain that a gate which has been left open should really be closed)
  • Do not interfere with fencing, livestock, machinery, crops, etc
  • Keep to the public right of way unless it is obstructed (in which case you may make a minor detour to avoid the obstruction or remove it. However, take care that you will not put livestock at risk)
  • Do not ride bicycles or horses on public footpaths – keep to bridleways
  • Report obstructions (eg electric fences or crops grown across public right of way) to Worcestershire County Council (see contact details below)
  • Report damaged, dangerous or difficult to use gates, stiles, steps, bridges or ditch crossings to Worcestershire County Council
  • Report missing or damaged fingerposts to Worcestershire County Council (every public right of way should have a fingerpost where it leaves the metalled highway - it is a criminal offence to damage or remove fiongerposts)
  • Report anyone attempting to deter you from using public rights of way (either in person or by posting deterrent or misleading signage) to Worcestershire County Council
  • You can contact Area Access Officer, Hazel Rowden, at Worcestershire County Council on 01905 763763

    Playing Field Noise

    Posted 5th August 2004

The long summer evenings and school holidays mean that everyone wants to play on the playing field. But the noise from this is causing problems to owners of neighbouring properties, who also want to enjoy their evenings.

So would everyone using the playing field and playground, especially in the evenings, please have some consideration for the owners of neighbouring properties. Children cannot, of course, be expected to play in silence, but they can be asked not to shout, scream or make excessive noise.

Would parents please ask their children to respect the neighbours, to minimise shouting and bad language, especially near the top of the field.

    Playing Field

    Posted 1st July 2004

Construction work on the multi-sport court has been delayed due to the recent hot weather, but the final playing surface should be finished during the first week in July. The area will then be available for tennis and basketball. Please see the notice on the entrance gate for booking information.

    Caretaker Appointment

    Posted 1st July 2004

All enquiries re booking the field or any facilities, and the access code for the courts, should be addressed directly to him.

Playing Field Noise Disturbance to Neighbours

    Posted 1st July 2004

Unfortunately, near neighbours are being disturbed by noise from the playing field. Would all those using the field please ensure that noise is kept to a minimum, especially at all times during the evening.

    Churchyard

    Posted 9th June 2004

    Carers Association

    Posted 9th June 2004

You are a relative, friend or neighbour. But are you a Carer too?

Many people care for people, but do not think of themselves as being a carer for that person. Many people miss out on information and support that might make your caring role easier. You may be suffering with health problems as a result of caring, so making sure your GP knows you are a carer is important.

The Worcestershire Association of Carers is launching a new campaign. Carers are encouraged to give their GP Practice a GP Carers Registration Card. All practices know about the card.

Call 01905 26500 for more information about a Card and carer support.

    Jubilee Playing Field

    Posted 9th June 2004

Construction work on the multi-sport court and bowling green should be completed ready for use by about end-June.

To ensure that all the sports areas on the field are properly and fairly used, the Parish Council will introduce an operating procedure covering issues such as bookings, Health and Safety and Duty of Care requirements, plus the need to be aware of potential impacts on neighbouring properties.

Full details will be available shortly and copies will be posted on the access gates.

    Multi-sports Court

The multi-sports court will be marked out with two tennis courts, one of which will be also marked for basketball. The court can also be used for other soft ball games and, during the winter months, it can be used for junior five-a-side football.

Anyone wishing to use the facilities will be able to book (see below) or turn up if the area is vacant.

Access will be via a coded entry system. Children under the age of twelve will have to be accompanied by an adult or responsible person. Suitable footwear must be worn at all times. Skateboards, cycles, and roller blades are specifically not allowed, because of their potential for damaging the special tarmac surface.

    Bowling Green

The Parish Council have authorised the Bowls Club to manage and maintain the bowls facility on their behalf. The club will provide all the necessary playing equipment and is open to any Crowle residents who may wish to play. The green will also be accessed by coded lock entry.

Anyone wishing to use the green other than with the Club may play outside club hours, and will have to provide their own equipment; those accessing the bowling green will be required to wear approved footwear.

    Cricket

Similarly, the Council have authorised Crowle Cricket Club to manage and maintain the cricket facilities on their behalf. Anyone wishing ether to play or to use the practice net should contact the Club.

    Bookings Arrangements

Anyone wishing to use the facilities on an ongoing basis should book their requirements.

The Council will shortly be issuing the contact phone numbers for bookings, and these will appear in the July Cryer. The relevant access code, which will be changed from time-to-time, will be provided at the time of booking.

    Whychavon Games

    Posted 16th May 2004

Despite requests in the Cryer we do not yet have anyone to co-ordinate the Crowle teams.

This is not an onerous job. Most of the team captains are in place. It is mainly keep- ing an eye on things and a contact for the Wychavon Games organiser.

It will get you out of that chair to meet some nice people so lets have a volunteer. Don’t leave it to someone else.

    Acorns Children’s Hospice Trust

    Posted 12th April 2004

Have you got a few hours a week to spare? Acorns Children’s Hospice Trust have recently opened a new shop in Pershore and desperately need volunteers to help serve customers and to sort and process stock.

The new shop is doing well, but with more helpers could raise even more money towards a new Hospice in Worcester.

Call Carol on 01386 555561 or 01905 381713, or call into the shop.

    Playing Field Progress

    Posted 12th April 2004

On 5th March, the Parish Council approved the Field Development Committee’s recommendations, and a contract is to be let to Beacon of Hallow, Worcester, to construct the multi-sport court and bowling green.

Due to start in April. It should only take 4-6 weeks, though time will be needed for the courts to ‘cure’ before they are completely ready. This is as always Weather Permitting !!

    Playground Opening

    Posted 12th April 2004

The date for the family picnic lunch at the new playground has been moved to SUNDAY 25 APRIL. This is due to the awful weather we have had, which has stopped workmen completing the job.

When can children use the playground?

The playground cannot be used until it has been inspected by safety inspectors, which is now unlikely to be before the Easter holidays. It will only be SAFE, and open to play on when the builders metal fences have come down. So watch out for them to go, and then enjoy!

    Celebration

The picnic will be a chance for everyone in the village to get together and see a fantastic new facility in the village, so bring your hampers, rugs and some spring sunshine and we can enjoy it to- gether.

    Queries, call Fizz 381080.

    Wychavon Parish Games

    Posted 23rd February 2004

Crowle has been one of the greatest supporters of the Wychavon Games and have entered teams for many years.

We are at present looking for a new co-ordinator for the Crowle Team.

There are 13 “sports / games” ranging from pub games to outdoor sports. Most of the events already have an organiser but what we need is a co-ordinator to be a focal point. This is not an onerous job and gives an opportunity to meet people in Crowle and the Surrounding villages.

If anyone is interested please contact Martin Povey 3871502

    Playground Opening

    Posted 23rd February 2004

Construction work of the playground itself is now scheduled to start on Monday 8th March, and fencing to be completed the following week.

To celebrate the occasion, a family picnic will be held at the playground starting at 11.00 a.m. on Sunday 28th March. Everyone is welcome to attend - bring your own food; soft drinks will be available.

    Playing Field Progress

    Posted 23rd February 2004

Thanks to the success of recent fund raising efforts, successful grant applications and the Council's new precept loan, sufficient funds are now available or pledged to enable the basic facilities, i.e. the multi-sports court and bowling green, to be constructed.

Over the past few months, the Field Development Committee has undertaken detailed studies to reach an appropriate specification for the work, and a number of potential contractors have been interviewed and their relevant capabilities checked out.

As a result of this essential preliminary work, the FDC will present their recommendations to the Parish Council at its March 5th meeting and, if the Council is satisfied, a contract will be awarded shortly thereafter.

If all goes according to plan, work will start on site during April.

    Watch this space!
